Finding Your Facebook Page

Now that we have our new Facebook Page…where the heck is it? That’s a good question! Unfortunately, it’s not as intuitive to find as it probably should be. Once you log into Facebook, you’ll want to scan the links on the left for Ads and Pages. If you don’t see it, look for a More button to show all your links.

Changing Your Picture

Next, you’ll want to change your picture from a boring question mark, to your organization’s logo or perhaps of picture of your main staff. Move your mouse over the image of the question mark in the upper-right-hand corner and click on Change Picture.

Then a page will appear to allow you to upload a picture to Facebook. If you don’t have a good image handy on a flash drive or online, skip this step and make a note to come back to it later.

Adding More Information About Your Non-Profit

Now you’ll want to add some more information about your non-profit. This may include your mission, when your organization was founded, and perhaps other information, such as open hours and your address.

To add more information, click on Edit Info, directly underneath the title of your page. This will take you to a form where you can add as much information about your non-profit as you’d like. If you don’t want to fill in a particular field, just leave it blank.

When you’re done, make sure to click on the Save Changes button at the bottom of the form.

Inviting Fans of the Work You Do to “Like” Your Page

First, if we’re not already on the Get Started page, let’s navigate there now by clicking on the Get Started link right under your new picture. When you’re there, you’ll see two ways to connect to potential Facebook fans:

  1. If you’re already friends with someone via your personal Facebook profile, you can suggest the page to any or all of your friends.
  2. You can import your contact list from your email. Afterwards, you’ll be able to choose a select group of individuals to tell about your new Facebook Page.

These options can be explored through the links shown in the image below.

Adding News and other Updates

Now that you’ve made some new connections, let’s take advantage it by sharing news and other updates that will be relevant and interesting to those who “Like” your page. You can do this by clicking on the Wall link on the left-hand side of the screen. The “Wall” is a stream of updates you share with your fans.

Once at the Wall, you’ll see that you can share text, poll questions, photos, links, and even videos.
